New

Well this is something new for me. I thought I set this up so different ones from around the world can talk and discuss saddles. I have been making saddles for over 10 years now, mainly western styles. I was taught by one of the best, Wilford Lewis, my father-in-law.

Hi I am the owner of Walker Saddlrey in Jolly TX.
I am glad to see a blog for saddle builder. I have read some blogs from boot maker and found them very informative. I hope this turns into a forum that practices the same enthusiastic and helpfullness as the boot makers blogs.Lets keep this up and tell others.

Hello again: Jolly is about 7 mil. SE of Wichita Falls TX. We didn't get the ice and snow that you all got but we did get plenty of rain.

Howdy;
I have a question. Other than a slightly diferant tree, what are the diferences between a team roper, and a steer tripper. I have a customer wanting one, but have never made one. Have made plenty of TR saddles tho. Hope all is well, Happy New Year.

Sorry about being so long on this. Somehow I got locked out of the blog account, and it is just now letting me back in.

On a Steer tripping tree (or Steer Roping as it is now called)the main differece is that the back cantel hieght is 2 1/2" high or lower and the normal horn is a #7 all tho I have had some asking for a #18.

Cool, so just the lower cantle? I have never used a #7 horn, just the #18. Would the "HTM" tree work? This is the only style tree I ordered from you guys. If not, what style would you recommend? The Low TM makes sense to me for jerking big steers. Thank You!

The HTM (Hog TM) will work. I talked with my brother-in-law who makes the trees and he has seen a lot of steer trippers changing over to an OY tree.

Just a question, from the picture on you site it looks like you have already installed a strainer before you fiberglassed the tree. If so, can you make a tree without one so I can put my own with as much equitation as the customer wants?
Thanks,
DC

Yes it can be done. But my brother-in-law who is the treemaker and owner of Lewis Saddle Tree Co. says that he can't give it a lifetime warranty.
